Gibbs Nursery is a baby and toddler retailer in Inverurie, a market town just outside Aberdeen. They’re quite rightly proud of their product range, which is excellent, one of the biggest for an independent retailer in the area.
The challenge for us was to get them on TV for the first time, they wanted to dip their toe in the water, elevate the brand but they needed to see a return on investment – a common dilemma for us. The challenge; driving footfall as well as showing a quality brand, with an entry level budget… Fortunately for Gibbs this is something we're very good at. The ad we made was simple but effective, delivering impact and driving sales and putting Gibbs firmly on the map.

For almost 5 years now STV Creative has helped Fergus and Glover build their brand using TV advertising. The North east is a competitive market for private dentistry and we’ve created a series of bold, creative and funny TV campaigns to set Fergus &#38; Glover apart. Our efforts have been recognised by the advertising industry with our campaign for dental implants winning a commendation at The Scottish Advertising Awards, no mean feet for a small local practice. The following year Fergus &#38; Glover wanted to build on the momentum with another campaign that promoted tooth whitening. Again the brief was high impact that would create awareness of the new product. We went back with a bunch of ideas and the client loved them all and ultimately couldn’t choose between three… so we made them all. We even worked alongside a South African production company Teamworks SA, to get a couple of shots that the Scottish environment didn’t lend itself too.

High street clothing retailer USC initially wanted a campaign to promote their Denim range. Producer Simon Ross worked with fellow producer Aileen Rushton, utilising her stop motion animation talents to produce this vibrant and energetic commercial. The commercials were all shot in store, we started shooting when the shops closed. 
The success of the campaign then went on to see other variations commissioned over the following months.

Queens Cross Dental has been advertising on STV through STV Creative for a couple of years now. We’ve made ads for various treatments and services you’d normally expect from a dentist but then they approached us with a new product they wanted to take to market… Botox. We came up with a simple idea that perfectly captured the benefits of the product in a visually arresting way. This commercial was filmed using the Sony F3 which had newly been made available within the market.

Taxi firm Com Cabs approached STV Creative to make an ad for the Aberdeen area – specifically promoting the Aberdeen phone number. There were a few things that they wanted to get across– account availability, cash payment, chip &#38; pin payment, locations. Now this could have lead to a very busy information heavy commercial. However, the idea we cam up with faced this head on and the result was a fast paced motion graphics ad produced by Paul Farquharson. We employed the skills of motion graphics designer Jonny Lewery. The ad follows the predicament of a couple of dubious characters trying to get themselves out of a spot of bother. 
Need a cab quick? Pick up the old dog n’ bone – job DONE.

In a tough economic climate Slater Hogg turned to TV advertising when their competitors were battening down the hatches. They were no stranger to TV but hadn’t been on for the best part of ten years. The message was simple Slater Hogg are the market leader, who sell more houses than any other estate agent in Scotland. How do you communicate that? You wrap SOLD tape around most of Scotland.

Look out for producer and creative Paul Farquharson as he makes a fleeting cameo pushing the kid on the swing. He said many sweets were used in the filming of this ad in order to make the children smile long enough to be captured on camera.

Breathing Space is a confidential helpline for anyone to call if they need someone to talk to. It’s a really important service that does great work and ultimately saves lives. The ad set out to speak to people who for whatever reason might be struggling with the intensity of modern life. If you do nothing, problems build and get worse so we came up with an idea that tried to capture how you feel when you’re in that place. The client loved this treatment and we very much worked together to craft the final TV ad.

These are bumpers we made for Scottish Leader whisky who sponsored the STV sports news. The idea was a development of some outdoor Scottish Leader had done, although we added a bit of humour and a bit of 3D to spice things up.
The bumpers were made by Simon working with 3D VFX artist Neil Mackay  (formerly of 422) who composited the ball in post-production.
Simon recalls his direction of the cast who were all genuine members of staff at the Scottish Leader distilleries. 
“It was a bit tricky to begin with; the guys were all blokes used to working in the distillery and were a bit awkward reacting to invisible footballs in front of a camera crew. In particular the main goal scorer was very wary of celebrating an imaginary goal like a loony – but after much hype from his pals and crew he delivered a stellar performance that has made him a bit of a hero down his local pub.”

So how do you advertise a university clearing line to a bunch of 18 year old wannabee students? Sounds a bit dull, a bit boring, a bit serious…. Not if you bring it to life, with some awesome animation from Kolik films and a spine tingling voice over by Joss Ackland. With animation we believe a voiceover that resonates with the audience is important. And in this case wanted a voice that would delivery the script as a story. Thankfully, the university of Cumbria agreed and released a bit more budget to invest just such a voice. And so Joss Ackland was hired for the job and delivered. Joss has appeared in movies such as The Hunt for Red October, Lethal Weapon 2, Bill &#38; Ted and is a familiar face on our tellys.
